Discover and treat the physical causes (or contributing factors) for your depression, anxiety and mental unwellness with Sheena Hendon
It wasn’t that long ago that it was thought that brain health had little to do with the health of our body – that is physical and mental health were entirely separate. It was our genetics, predisposition or a life event that caused our (fill in the gaps) depression, anxiety, stress, sadness, flat mood, behavioural problems. Well, that’s all in the past, and today there is an explosion of recognition of how biology and psychology interplay. That’s where I come in…to discover if there are any biochemical imbalances or causes for your current mental state. Check out my article – mood imbalances – not just in your head for more info.
Who am I? Sheena Hendon. Registered Naturopathy, Registered Nutritionist and NLP Master practitioner. BSc Honours (Nutrition & Dietetics), BHSc with distinction (Naturopathic and Herbal Medicine)
What do I do: Discover and treat the underlying biochemical causes of your mental health complaints – from depression, burnout, chronic fatigue, hormonal imbalance, anxiety, stress, ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s and more. I treat both adults and children.
What I am not. A Counsellor, psychiatrist or psychotherapist. I urge you to ensure your emotional needs are met by one of these qualified practitioners
What are the biochemical causes of brain health unwellness? Often mental illness is a consequence of or may be exacerbated by physical factors. So, if your depression, anxiety or other mental distress is just not going away or keeps coming back, then it may indicate that there is an underlying physical cause. These include:
- Gut function: Leaky gut, inflammation, dysbiosis, SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) food sensitivities, blood sugar imbalance, Coeliac’s disease…
- Toxins – including heavy metals, xenoestrogens (affecting hormones), environmental toxins and more
- Nutritional deficiencies or overload (such as vitamin D, B6, magnesium vitamins, zinc, copper…)
- Neurotransmitter or hormonal imbalances (from thyroid and adrenal, oestrogen, progesterone, DHEA, GABA, cortisol…)
- Neuroinflammation
- Genetic variations (allergies, pyrrole disorder, Gilbert’s syndrome, MTHFR and methylation ability
- Obesity or overweight
Once we have discovered the underlying causes, we are then able to focus on individual drug-free treatment from balancing hormones, correcting nutrient balance, providing the appropriate diet or food sensitivity protocol or detoxifying heavy metals. We develop a treatment plan just for you – including lifestyle and diet reprogramming as well as nutraceuticals and herbal medications where appropriate.
What to expect when you book in with Sheena Hendon
Please book in for our Mental Health & wellness programme. Total cost $260 (reduced from $399) includes:
YOUR FIRST CONSULTATION The first appointment is 60 minutes in duration and is for fact-finding – including an in-depth discussion regarding your current state of health (physically, mentally and emotionally), past health history, issues you wish to work on and outcomes you desire. We will ask about your past and present health history (from gut through to hormonal and immune health), diet, activity and emotional state, family history and a review any blood tests, specialist reports, medications and so forth so that we get the big picture about what is going on for you.
We may also do tests in the practice such as zinc tally test, urinary pH test, blood sugar levels and blood pressure and physical examinations such as thyroid or digestive system palpitation and weight and body composition. We may also arrange external tests such as blood and stool tests and functional tests such as an Oligoscan to measure heavy metals and nutrients, hormonal DUTCH test, SIBO breath test, lab blood tests, allergy and food sensitivity tests and more.
RESEARCH & PLAN DEVELOPMENT BEFORE YOUR SECOND APPOINTMENT. I will use an additional 1 hour plus in advance of the second appointment, to interpret your testing results and develop your health plan.
THE SECOND APPOINTMENT typically a 30-minute long, personal consultation to present our Report of Findings, explain in detail what is going on for you and outline the treatment plan and protocol.

FOLLOW UP SESSIONS (1 hour $15. ½ hour $80)
The follow-up review sessions (typically 30 minutes) are the ideal time to check in and make sure you are keeping on-track, to go through any questions/challenges you have or to learn about further ways to get the results you want. We aim to partner you through the good and bad on your journey to health and wellness. The length and duration of your follow-ups will depend on the individual. Once you move on to a Wellness Maintenance programme, you may wish to come for three or four visits a year or even just for an annual check-up.
We do recommend that you plan and book your first review at the 4-week mark so that we can ensure that you are heading in the right direction to meet your health and wellness goals. This consultation may be critical for us to be able to tweak the plan and change your lifestyle, diet and or prescribed herbal medicines or phytonutrients to get the best results
