The allergy and reactivity reduction programme for skin, respiratory, behaviour and gut symptoms and more, where we treat the cause as well as the symptoms

If you’ve been suffering from allergic or insensitivity issues for a while, you may be frustrated at getting nowhere with conventional testing and treatments. You want to discover and correct the root cause of your symptoms, rather than just suppress symptoms.
At Sheena Hendon Health, a qualified Dietitian (UK) and NZ registered Nutritionist and Naturopath will take the time to listen to you and your history, conducting a thorough case history, symptom analysis and possible referral for functional pathology testing, to discover what’s really behind your symptoms.

Once we have a clear understanding of what’s causing your symptoms, you will work together with your practitioner to create a personalised treatment plan consisting of the PAT (Positive Association Technique to reduce symptoms), herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, and an eating plan (if relevant).

You are given all the support you need, from recipes and eating plans, to troubleshooting, , ongoing consultations and email support. We are there for you until the causes of your symptoms are resolved and you are living life symptom-free.

What to expect from your sessions

Initial session – 60 minutes

During your initial 60-minute consultation, you will sit down with your practitioner to go over your health history and review all your symptoms and diet. This comprehensive appraisal ensures that I have all the information needed to gain a complete understanding of all the factors affecting your health and to get a baseline of your allergy and intolearances from which we can track improvement in your symptoms.

On completion of your assessment, your practitioner, depending on the symptoms,  may:

  • Recommend initial functional testing such as Blood tests, SIBO Breath Test and or a Comprehensive Stool Analysis.
  • Provide you with dietary guidelines, including an allowable food list, eating plan, and meal plan guidance
  • Recommend initial supplements and lifestyle changes for you to begin.

We will then book your initial PAT session as follows:

Second session – 60 minutes

At this session, we will do the PAT Technique in the clinic

What is the PAT technique?

PAT is a non-invasive, natural allergy treatment performed by qualified Naturopaths. PAT is based on a form of positive conditioning, utilising kinesiology and Chiropractic acupressure techniques to help re-train your body to reduce your reactions to food, airborne and chemical substances.

PAT has been performed in Australia since 2003, and New Zealand since 2007, on more than 25,000 clients suffering from allergy symptoms and helps everyday people who are affected by anything from seasonal allergies, nasal congestion, food reactions and more.

The treatment evolved from over 20 years of collaborative research from health care professionals in the fields of acupuncture, kinesiology, naturopathy and acupressure. The holistic blend coupled with modern technology has led to a non-invasive, painless treatment that can be administered to clients of any age.

Why people love PAT’s non-invasive nature;

  • No needles
  • No herbal remedies
  • No supplements
  • No avoidance (in fact, you’ll be holding a vial of the substance in your hand).

PAT complements well with small lifestyle changes, so you can take PAT as a stand-alone treatment or a way to give yourself an extra boost in working with a complex condition.

Typical symptoms managed with this technique:

Digestive symptoms; Bloating Cramping Reflux Heartburn Gas DiarrheaNasal and respiratory symptoms; runny nose Sneezing Congestion Post-nasal drip Itchy watery eyes Coughs Wheezing Red scaly or itchy rashes Stuffy nose (blocked nasal passage) Shortness of breath
Skin symptoms; Hives Itchy skin Eczema DermatitisMood and behavioural symptoms; Hyperactivity Mood swings Headaches Fatigue Nausea And many other symptoms and combination of symptoms

Allergies, intolerances sensitivities defined

Allergies occur when the immune system reacts to substances in the environment that are harmless for most people, such as house dust mites, pet dander, pollen, insect bites and stings, moulds and foods. An intolerance is considered a ‘chemical’ reaction to a substance, commonly food, and does not show up on a traditional allergy test. The term sensitivity is less clear; however, in complementary medicine, it is commonly seen as a delayed and milder reaction. The possible manifestations of a food reaction are widespread and also non-specific. They have been linked to gastrointestinal symptoms, skin complaints, respiratory issues, fatigue, headache, migraine, cognitive deficits, neurodevelopmental disorders, anxiety, depression, joint pain, muscle pain, and endocrine disturbances. Regardless of the cause, be it environmental or food-induced, the impact on an individual’s quality of life can be considerable.

An allergic reaction involves a complex interplay between antigens, immune cells (e.g. T cells, Immunoglobulin E (IgE), Immunoglobulin G (IgG), Immunoglobulin A (IgA) antibodies) and effector cell activation (mast cells, basophils, eosinophils). This results in an inflammatory response (a reaction), with localised and systemic symptoms. The consequential sustained inflammation may act as a potential driver exacerbating other chronic conditions.

Building Tolerance

Increasing tolerance to environmental and food-borne allergens is a key strategy when faced with the myriad of respiratory, skin and digestive allergic/reactive events that can impact individuals of all ages. Current medical approaches focus on the removal of the allergen and symptomatic relief. The goal of an Allergy and Reactivity Reduction Programme is to not just aid in symptom relief, but to focus on correcting the underlying processes – immune, gut, microbiome, digestion – and increasing allergen tolerance
